NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — February is American Heart Month, and each year the statistics remain the same: one in every three people will die from heart disease. For many, there are no warning signs at all.
I know that because it killed my brother — a sudden heart attack.
It also took the life of my best friend’s husband.
In both cases, the very first symptom was fatal. Both men were young, in their 40s, leaving behind their wives, young children, and families who never saw it coming.
I don’t want any other family to go through this. That mission led me to one cardiologist, bringing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology to Tennessee — technology that can detect your risk of a heart attack before danger strikes.
Megan Ivey Pitts now sits in her husband’s chair — at his desk — running his company alone. It wasn’t the plan for this mother of three, but in February 2023, life changed forever.

Megan’s husband, Brian, became sick with symptoms that started subtly and seemed benign. “He started to feel unwell around midnight and was sick all night long. He thought it was a stomach bug and maybe had undercooked the pheasant. He had also been having some heartburn,” Megan says.
Brian Pitts was 49, fit, and in seemingly perfect health. Nothing could have prepared the family for what was really happening.
“It’s the absolute worst thing — other than something happening to your child,” Megan says. “Losing your spouse and support system suddenly is a nightmare. That’s my mission now: to bring awareness that it doesn’t always look like pain shooting down your arm or sudden shortness of breath. Sometimes it’s something small, like heartburn.”

Since Brian’s death, Megan has partnered with the American Heart Association and received the Nashville Business Journal’s Women of Influence Award for her advocacy.
Eerily similar, the same quiet warning signs were present in my own brother Patrick’s deadly heart attack in October. He was just 46.
Through my own grief, I found Dr. Kevin Young.
Dr. Young is a prominent cardiologist in the Nashville area and the founder of The Young Heart Group. It is the only practice in Tennessee using Cleerly AI technology — a scan that reveals blockages not visible on standard tests.
The process is a 60-second, noninvasive body scan with results available within hours.
It uses AI-generated 3D modeling to identify plaque that traditional tests can miss.
“What we’re able to do with this technology is identify risk early, intervene early, and prevent people from ever getting there,” Dr. Young says. “This is true healthcare — not reactive sick care.”
Currently, the scan and personal health evaluation cost $2,500. In recognition of American Heart Month, Dr. Young is offering $500 off for healthcare workers and first responders.
Personal heath evaluation and discount.
