LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — In a few short months, college students will toss their caps then conquer the corporate world.
As they navigate post grad life — They’ll also enter an evolving workforce with artificial intelligence.
“It’s really changing things,” says University of Central Arkansas’s Dean of College of Science and Engineering, Steve Addison.
He says he is seeing the shift in the job market.
“I ultimately expect more jobs, not less jobs. But that doesn’t help those looking for a job today,” says Addison.
He says it’s really impacting recent college graduates applying for entry level positions.
That’s why UCA is adapting its curriculum to incorporate more AI.
“If we teach students how to use it, they’ll be better prepared to go out into the workplace, and they will be using it in the workplace,” said Addison.
But he does recognize AI isn’t perfect and they’re teaching students to use it responsibly.
“AI does hallucinate. And so if you ask it to research something for you, it may give you really good research, it may make things up.
From classrooms to careers — AI is here to stay — and Addison says success comes with adaptability.
“You truly have to be a lifelong learner. You have to keep aware of the trends and the ones who prosper are the ones who keep up,” says Addison.
